Setting up a new account
Setting up an E-gold account is free. There is no charge for having an account unless you store gold in it. You can open more than one account if you want to.
Before you sign up, make sure you have a working e-mail address. Free accounts, like hotmail or yahoo, are acceptable. Without this you won't receive your account details!
- Go to E-gold and click the new account link.
- Decide on a name for this account. Other people will see this name. Since your E-gold account number is your main identity, this one can be as silly or as professional as you like.
- Pick your username. Only you will see this.
- Enter an address. E-gold asks for a real one. If you choose to supply a false one, you might lose access to your account if e-gold need to validate it. This is unlikely for small, honest transactions. It is becoming more important to use correct details so be careful. If you use false details, make sure you never have much in the account to lose.
- Enter a working e-mail. It must work or you will not receive your account number! I've used mine for over a year with no spam.
- Enter your phone number. This can be a cell/mobile phone. Like your address, this may be needed for verification. If you choose to use a false phone number, you might lose access to your account. (I've never heard of this happening).
- Choose an alternate (secondary) password. This one is rarely used, usually only if there are questions about a transaction.
- Pick your main password. This should be easy to remember and difficult to guess. It must contain alphabetical characters(a,b,c etc) AND numerical ( 1,2,3 etc).
Tip. Use a 'first letter phrase'. This means the first letter from the words in a phrase you know well. For example, using Britney Spears song 'Hit me baby one more time' would give you the password Hmbomt. Hard to guess, easy to remember. Avoid using single words and if possible don't use real words found in a dictionary. more password tips.
Once you enter the random turing code that prevents automated sign-ups, your account number will be e-mailed to you.
That's it. You know have a working E-gold account. Once you've added some gold you can start using it.
